Consultant, Sumie Sato

Started playing trumpet at 9. In 1999, she graduated from Musashino Academia Musicae Department of Instrument with top honors, majoring trumpet, and served as a valedictorian. She has appeared on various concerts in Japan. In 1999, she has performed solo as a first female trumpeter at Touka Gakudou (music hall) Concerts performed by new musicians, which was organized by Empress. In the same year, she has appeared on various stages including young performers’ concert hosted by Yomiuri Newspaper Company. Since 2001, she has been performing in New York. In 2002, she was assigned to go abroad as a trainee of Cultural Affairs Agency and diligently continued studying in New York. In 2006, she has obtained professional diploma from Mannes College of Music, as well as a master's degree from The City University of New York in 2009. Since 2008, she has received a scholarship from the college. She studied under Yoshikazu Kubo (A principal trumpeter of Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, also an instructor at Musashino Academia Musicae), James Pandolfi (A former performer of the Metropolitan Opera), David Krauss (A principal trumpeter of the Metropolitan Opera, also a faculty at NYU), Thomas V. Smith (A performer at New York Philharmonic, also a faculty at Mannes College of Music in Manhattan), and Douglas Hedwig (A professor at The Graduate School and University Center of The City University of New York). She also studied wind brass quintet under Thomas V. Smith and David Taylor at Mannes College of Music. She also studied under Per Brevig at Brass class, Brass ensemble under David Finlayson (A trombonist at New York Philharmonic), and wind brass quartet, wind brass quintet and chamber music under D Hedwig at CUNY.

Currently, while helping those musicians studying abroad as a consultant at SSG Music, she is also performing and teaching trumpet. She is active in diverse forms of music including chamber music, orchestra and ensemble.
